Campaign Update

William H. GatesSince the launch of Campaign UW: Creating Futures in October 2004, we’ve been updating you on the progress we’re making toward our $2 billion goal (see graph at right). Each unit is diligently raising funds to support the special things that only private philanthropy can do for a university. New dollars are expanding the breadth and scope of the University’s research and teaching, and upholding its commitment to excellence in all areas of discovery and learning.

One of our earliest examples of success is in the College of Arts and Sciences. This past year, the College completed its Campaign for 100 Professorships that will help attract, retain, recognize and reward some of the best and brightest faculty. In return, these faculty will continue to drive discovery, inspire curiosity and challenge students.

More recently, philanthropic dollars enabled UW Medicine and the College of Engineering to increase their research space with the opening of the William H. Foege Building. This new building will give two UW Departments — Genome Sciences and Bioengineering — the space needed to expand their work of tackling some of the most challenging health problems of our time.

Medicine and Arts & Sciences are just two examples of the great new things happening at the University as a result of your support. Many other UW schools, colleges and campuses are also seeing the fruits of donors’ gifts. With your continued support, we will meet our final campaign goal, but more importantly, achieve even greater success in providing excellent higher education and life-changing innovations to our state and to our world. Thank you.
