Inaugural Social Work Scholarship Breakfast to feature William H. Gates

William H. GatesThe School of Social Work (SSW) celebrates its 75th Anniversary with the first annual Student Scholarship Breakfast, aiming to raise $50,000 for undergraduate and graduate student support. Nearly 70 percent of current SSW students are borrowing to finance their educations. The average college loan debt for social work graduates is $25,500 and starting salaries for social workers average $28,000 per year. All proceeds from the Breakfast will go to scholarship and fellowship awards. Your support represents a vital investment in the future of social work and other public service professions, enabling future generations of students to pursue a social work education.

Guest speaker William H. Gates Sr., author of the book Showing Up for Life: Thoughts on the Gifts of a Lifetime, will speak about the values and principles he has learned over a lifetime of “showing up”, including hard work, generosity, getting along, speaking out, and much more. The breakfast will also feature conversations with School of Social Work Dean Edwina Uehara and James Kelly, President of the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle.
