Q. Can I personalize my UW special license plate?
A. Yes. To Determine if the personalized message you would like is available please enter the plate you want here.

Q. I already have a UW plate on my vehicle can I get the new UW design?
A. Yes, current UW plate holders can purchase a replacement plate with the new UW plate design. However, you will be required to pay a replacement plate fee and get a new license plate number. Current plate holders cannot keep their old license plate number, because the new design has a new number series.

Q. Do I receive my plates on the day I purchase them?
A. No, within two business days of the purchase, the plates are mailed to the registered owner’s mailing address on file with the department.

Q. What is the cost of the new UW plates?
A. The original cost to purchase a UW plates is $47.75 plus any applicable licensing fees.

If you are replacing your current UW plate, you will be required to pay a replacement plate fee. To determine the total cost due, contact your local vehicle licensing office.

Q. When will I know what my new plate number will be?
A. Your new registration will show what your new license plate number is. The Department of Licensing computer system assigns plate numbers in numerical order when a transaction is finalized. No vehicle licensing agent can override the Department of Licensing’s computer system to assign a specific number

Q. Can I purchase a new plate even if my vehicle is not due to be renewed
A. Yes. You can purchase a new plate at any point during your registration period. Visit https://wws2.wa.gov/dol/vsagents/ to locate a vehicle licensing office and stop by to get a new UW specialty license plate today.
