William H. Gates Public Service Law Scholarship Program Created in honor of UW Regent and Campaign UW Chair William H. Gates Sr ('49, '50).'s 80th birthday, this program will award five scholarships a year for 80 years. The program gives UW School of Law students an opportunity to pursue a career in public service, and it enhances the School of Law's ability to attract the very best students. In exchange for full tuition and other expenses, recipients commit to working in public service for five years following graduation. In addition to the scholarships, the program also provides support for seminars, a speaker series, internships, job placement, and several opportunities for Gates PSL Scholars and other UW law students to collaborate on public service issues with other law schools in Washington state. Inspired by the Walker-Ames Lecture Series, which has brought eminent scholars to the University's Seattle campus since 1936, Arthur R. Paulsen ('40, '46) created a similar lecture series at UW Tacoma. The gift will create an endowed fund, called the Arthur R. and Anna Mae Paulsen Visiting Chair in Public Affairs, to support bringing well-known public figures to campus. Visiting lecturers will address a range of political and social issues. Support UW Tacoma | Learn More |
