Lt. Col. "Pappy" Boyington Memorial Scholarship Fund
This fund will provide scholarships to undergraduate students who are either a United States Marine Corps veteran or are the child of a United States Marine Corps veteran. Our goal for this fund is to fully endow a scholarship at the $50,000 level. Endowed scholarships create a lasting legacy of support and provide funds for scholarships in perpetuity. The first Pappy Boyington Scholarship is scheduled to be awarded in 2007. CLICK HERE to learn more about Pappy Boyington Here's an update on our efforts. We've raised more than $20,000 in gifts and pledges from more than 150 donors with more gifts coming in every day. Gifts to this fund send a strong message of support for our young men and women in the armed services. We've also seen a number of gifts come in to the UW Foundation in support of Detachment 910 (our UW Air Force ROTC program) as well as the Husky Battalion (UW's Navy ROTC program) and the Kinnear Husky Battalion (UW Army ROTC program). Many of our donors are first-time givers to the University of Washington and we are deeply grateful for their support. The UW Foundation makes it very easy for donors to be very targeted in their giving. I urge you to be engaged in the life of the university, get to know some of our students, and support the students who share your values. We have more than 4,000 different funds you can support through the UW Foundation. If you are interested, you can make a gift online to the Pappy Boyington Memorial Scholarship here or you can mail a check to us at UW Foundation, Box 358240, Seattle, WA 98195-8240. Checks should be made payable to the UW Foundation, with a note indicating the fund or program you'd like to support. You can also make a gift or pledge by phone by contacting us on our toll-free line at 1-877-UW-GIFTS. We are deeply gratified by the many gifts given in Pappy Boyington's honor and memory by donors all across the country. Because of this generosity, a US Marine Corps veteran or the child of a US Marine Corps veteran will be helped in pursuing studies at the UW. Please consider joining us in this effort and please share this information with others who might be interested. For questions about this fund, please contact: Renee Fricke
