About the College

At the UW College of Engineering, we embrace a future filled with unlimited possibility. But creating the brightest tomorrow depends on having highly talented, motivated, enterprising people today. In order to nurture new ideas and life-changing discoveries, we must provide an environment of excellence for the most talented students and world-class faculty.

Building on its strengths, the College is poised to become a national leader and premier institution., Your support of the College of Engineering allows us to be a center of learning and home to some of the world's most advanced research. And, it allows us to work in multidisciplinary teams, to be innovators and inventors. Together, as partners, we will take on today's challenges and will be a leader in redefining not only the engineering discipline but also the world in which we live.

During Campaign UW, the College seeks funds to support students, faculty, and programs with a Campaign goal of $250 million. To learn more about our specific Campaign priorities, please contact Judy Mahoney, Assistant Dean.

Annual Support

The arrival of a new dean for the College of Engineering, Matt O'Donnell, has ushered in a new and exciting era for the already thriving college. Dean O'Donnell declared, "I'm excited to help the college become one of the truly premier engineering schools in the country. We are ready to take the next major step forward." This vision is only possible with the aid private support, which will go to the college's priorities:

  • Further strengthening the undergraduate education beginning with the freshman year. When students feel more connected to engineering and the College from the outset, they will experience a richer education and environment.
  • Continuing to encourage the climate of innovative, interdisciplinary research. Award-winning faculty members are leading broad associations of researchers from some of the country's top facilities in pursuit of technologies that will shape our nation's economy and our planet's health for generations to come.
  • Ensuring that students have opportunities to participate in the research and design processes. When undergraduate and graduate students work in the lab, side-by-side with stellar faculty, they gain expertise in understanding the complex parameters of real-world problems while building the teamwork skills that they need to succeed in their field of choice.

Not only will your gift support the College's curricula and resources, but will also directly help students through scholarship and fellowship funding. For example, the Emerging Leaders program provides scholarships to exceptionally capable students to support their education at UW and their goal to become leaders in the field:

  • Since childhood, Charles Harris-White has loved technology. After building an audio studio at home and working at his high school radio station, Charles decided to pursue electrical engineering as a major. With both of his parents and sister in college as well, a UW scholarship has been critical to Charles pursuing his dream. He hopes one day to complete his PhD and become a professor so he can encourage students to realize their potential.
  • Originally from South Central Los Angeles, Magaly Ramirez had few positive role models in her life. After moving to Washington as a high school junior, Magaly participated in a conference at the UW that inspired her to attend college and pursue a career in engineering. Magaly is now studying industrial engineering and hopes to show that women, regardless of their background, can achieve success.
  • Vince Zanella always had the drive to succeed at the UW, but he lacked the financial resources. After a family emergency his freshman year forced Vince to withdraw, he continued his studies at community college while working full time and maintaining a 3.84 GPA. Now back at the UW as a computer science & electrical engineering student, Vince's scholarship has considerably lightened his load, allowing him to focus on his studies and his future.

With your gift, you play an integral role in the College's continued success, becoming a partner with Dean O'Donnell, the faculty, staff, and students in creating the best possible educational experience. Your unrestricted gift to the Engineering Dean's Fund for Excellence will promote initiatives that strengthen the College of Engineering's position as a national leader in education and research.
