UW Medicine Support this Program
UW Medicine - which includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, and the UW School of Medicine - is committed to improving the health of people everywhere through outstanding teaching, research, and patient care. TEACHING
The School of Medicine is a crucial resource for the Pacific Northwest and the only medical school for Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. For the 14th consecutive year, the School was ranked the nation's No. 1 medical school for training primary-care doctors by U.S. News & World Report ("America's Best Graduate Schools," April 2007).
RESEARCH
UW Medicine is an internationally respected center for biomedical research, receiving more competitive funding from the National Institutes of Health than any other University except Harvard.
PATIENT CARE
UW Medicine's two teaching hospitals are recognized year after year for their excellence in patient care. UW Medical Center is ranked the No. 11 hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report ("America's Best Hospitals," July 2007) and is one of only 50 U.S. medical centers - and the only one in Washington - recognized as a Magnet Hospital for its outstanding nursing care. Harborview Medical Center is the only Level 1 adult and pediatric trauma center and regional burn center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. It has centers of emphasis in neurosciences, rehabilitation and reconstruction, and a number of other areas. Harborview is also an indispensable part of the community safety net, providing 25 percent of the charity care in the entire state of Washington.
