History

Now in its 51st year of service, KUOW serves Western Washington and Southern British Columbia. The station is operated by KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio (PSPR) under an agreement with the University of Washington, KUOW's licensee. PSPR is a private non-profit corporation established in 1999 and is governed by a community board.

The station has been an integral part of our community since 1952, thanks to the solid foundation of financial support from dedicated listeners. Beginning as a student-run station, KUOW has grown to become a professional award-winning news and information station. Today, nearly 240,000* listeners tune in each week to KUOW.

KUOW provides in-depth local, national and international programming from National Public Radio, Public Radio International, the BBC and the KUOW team of journalists. Engaging and entertaining local programs produced by KUOW include Weekday, The Conversation, The Beat, The Swing Years & Beyond, and the NPR-syndicated Rewind with Bill Radke. KUOW also airs national favorites such as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and This American Life, to name a few.

Listeners can access KUOW programming 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world at www.kuow.org. The web site is an easy-to-access, reliable source of current information including program schedules, links to national program sites, program archives and much more.

Giving Opportunities

KUOW values and appreciates gifts at all levels. Gifts from individual donors provide more than half of KUOW’s operating revenue. Financial support can be provided through annual donations, special gifts, and planned gifts. Donations may also be made on-line through a secure site at www.kuow.org .

Every donor will receive the KUOW quarterly newsletter, The Listening Post. With a contribution of $75 or more, you may also select a special thank-you gift, available for preview on www.kuow.org.
