It has been a tremendous year at the University of Washington, thanks in no small part to the support of our friends and alumni. Fiscal year 2006 broke all previous records for private support at the University — both in terms of dollars received and number of contributors. We are deeply grateful for your extraordinary generosity. In this report you will read about some of the highlights of the past fiscal year and about the continued progress of Campaign UW: Creating Futures. As you will see, In Seattle, private support from Frank (’47) and Julie Jungers established the first-ever endowed deanship at the University, making possible the recruitment and appointment of Matthew O’Donnell as dean of the College of Engineering. And as UW Bothell and UW Tacoma transitioned into four-year institutions, private support allowed those campuses to offer scholarship support to many students in their inaugural freshman classes. The Campaign also received an energizing boost from the UW Matching Initiative, which enabled contributors to significantly enhance their commitments for endowed support through matching funds from the University and the UW Founders. The Matching Initiative has allowed for the establishment of 263 new endowments since its launch in 2004, a significant increase in permanent funding to support students and faculty. These are only a few notable examples of how your contributions to Campaign UW are creating opportunity, improving lives, and providing much-needed resources to our students and faculty. Regardless of where you directed your support this past year, your gifts of every size have made a significant difference at the University. As the Campaign enters its seventh year, we are more committed than ever before to ensuring that students continue to have broad access to the wonderful resources of this university, so we will be redoubling our efforts to increase support for undergraduate and graduate students alike. In doing so, we will continue to encourage your support and to welcome the opportunity to work with you to strengthen the University of Washington. Together, with your continued support, we will create vibrant futures for our students, faculty and the communities we serve, here and around the globe. Thank you.
