The Safeco Diversity Scholarship Fund Event was initiated
by the Safeco Corporation in an effort to raise $1 million for scholarships
benefiting the University of Washington Scholars Program. Attendees at
the 2003 inaugural event enjoyed a private reception and dinner at Safeco
Field and a live broadcast of the 2003 Major League Baseball All-Star

Donors to the UW who have made their gifts through estate
plans or other planned giving means are welcomed into the Henry Suzzallo
Society. The annual Suzzallo Society Reception is the UW’s opportunity
to thank and recognize these generous and committed donors.
Ted Baseler, president and CEO of Stimson Lane Vineyards & Estates,
hosts the annual Chateau Ste. Michelle Diversity Scholarship Dinner and
Concert in support of the Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholarship Fund, which
provides scholarships to underrepresented minority undergraduates at
both the UW and WSU. Past performers at the event include Anita Baker
and Linda Ronstadt.
The annual Costco Diversity Scholarship Breakfast, co-hosted
by UW Regent and Costco Chairman Jeff Brotman and Costco CEO Jim Sinegal,
helps raise scholarship funds for the Costco Diversity Scholarship Fund,
which provides tuition assistance to undergraduate minority students
at the UW and Seattle University. To date, the event has raised more
than $2.7 million to provide entering UW freshman with a full, four-year
UW Diversity Scholarship.
The Recognition Gala provides the University
the opportunity to formally and publicly recognize and thank
donors to the UW who annually contribute $10,000, as well as those whose
lifetime giving exceeds $100,000. The University also presents the
Gates Volunteer Service Award to honor the commitment and spirit of a
specially chosen volunteer who has advanced the University of Washington through their dedication and personal involvement.
